Programs
In addition to programs of
special interest, the South Holland Public Library offers story hours, book
discussion groups, reading clubs, and video presentations as regularly scheduled
events.
Click on the buttons below to access our current schedule of
programs.
Regularly scheduled programs include film presentations and book
group discussions. Special programs are held periodically
throughout the year.
Pre-Registration is required for most
programs.

ADULT
SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Take the
challenge and "Go For The Gold" by joining the Adult Summer
Reading Program. If you read of listen to 4 books while
participating in the Adult Summer Reading Program at the South
Holland Public Library, you will win a prize. The program runs
through August 2.
ELIGIBILITY
This program is open to all South Holland
residents 15 years of age or older with a valid South Holland
Public Library card.
REGISTRATION
Participants must register for the Adult
Summer Reading Program at the Adult Reference Desk between now and July 5.
RULES
The Adult Summer Reading Program will
begin on June 9 at 10:00AM and will end on August 2 at
5:00PM
Participants must register by July 5.
All books or audio books must be from the
adult collection of the South Holland Public Library or
obtained through Interlibrary Loan from the adult department
of other libraries. No juvenile material or magazines will
be allowed.
Before returning book, participants must
record the titles of the books at the Adult Reference Desk.
Upon returning the fourth book, the
participant will receive a prize and a coupon to fill out
that will be entered into our "Grand Finale" Drawing for
additional prizes. For each additional four books read or
listened to, the participant will receive an additional
coupon for the drawing. All books must be recorded and
coupons must be turned in by 5:00PM on August 2.
The "Grand Finale" Drawing will be held
on August 5. Winners need not be present to win, and will be
notified by telephone.
Hat Day at the
Library!
Wednesday, July
2 All ages are welcome to participate!
Wear a hat from your favorite sports team, check out a book and
receive a small remembrance of the day while supplies last.
Film
Presentation: Vietnam & The Philippines
Thursday, July
3 at 1:30pm Film Presentation. The rich cultural heritage and beauty of each country will
be covered in this entertaining video.
No Registration required.
String Fever
Thursday, July
31 at 7:00pm String Fever proves that one acoustic guitar
and two sets of hammered dulcimers can make entertaining music.
Join us for a delightful and unusual performance by a talented
trio of players.
Pre-Registration is required and begins July 5.

YOUTH
SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Join
the summer reading program by registering between now and July 5.
Children of all ages can read library books that are of interest
to them while maintaining reading skills that they acquired
during the school year. The free program runs through August 2
and includes special programs and reading incentives.

RULES
All books must be from the South Holland
Public Library
You must read books on your reading
level. We will not count books that are too easy for you.
You have a choice of reading 10 books or
reading 10 hours.
Your goal is to read 10 books or 10 hours
by August 2.
The deadline for recording books or
returning your chart is 5:00PM on Saturday, August 2.
Reading folders for recording books are
kept at the Library. Hour charts are kept at home.
Incentives are given after completing the
3rd, 6th, 9th, and 10th book or hour. And additional
incentive will be given after completing the 20th book or
hour.

July 10 at 2:00pm Ages 9-12 Follow the game plan and prepare your

July 15 at 2:00pm Ages 6-9 Get ready for the Olympics. Learn about
Chinese culture through games, crafts, and food.

Amazing Acro-Cats
Thursday,
July 17 at 7:00pm All Ages Be amused and amazed by Chicago's only
trained domestic acrobatic cat show. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

July K.I.T.S Book
Club
Saturday,
July 19 at 10:30am Ages 9-12 Join our reading group and express your
thoughts on the selected book:
"Yellow Bird and Me" by Joyce Hansen.
Pick up a copy of the book in
Youth Services at the time of registration.

Pennant Race
Wednesday,
July 23 at 2:00pm Ages 9-13 Show your team spirit. Design a pennant for
your favorite team.
