How to get a Library Card

All residents of the incorporated Village of South Holland shall be entitled to a South Holland Public Library card that is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance or until termination of residency in the Village of South Holland.  Your card will be valid in all member libraries of the Metropolitan Library System.

To apply for a library card, residents will be asked to provide two (2) forms of identification from the list below.

ALL FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION MUST SHOW YOUR NAME AND CURRENT ADDRESS.

  • A current drivers license with a current address

  • A utility bill issued within the last 3 months

  • A property tax bill issued within the last 6 months

  • A pre-printed rent receipt issued within the last 3 months or a copy of a current property lease

  • A high school photo ID that shows the student's current address

  • A voter's registration card issued within the last year

  • The Closing Statement from the purchase of a South Holland residence along with the deed, title, or mortgage of that residence

You will be asked to fill out a Library Card application which asks for information such as your name, address, and telephone number. Please be assured that ALL information provided to the library is kept confidential.
In addition, you are asked to give the name, address, and telephone number of a person who can verify your current address. Please DO NOT give the name of a person with whom you reside. Please provide a reference who resides within the State of Illinois.
Juveniles, 5-17 years of age, may apply for a South Holland Public Library Card by completing the Library's standard application that includes the signature of their parent or legal guardian who accepts responsibility for use of their juvenile card.  Parents must show a copy of their child's birth certificate and legal guardians must provide a copy of their legal guardianship papers for the child that they are accepting responsibility for.  In addition, the signing parent or legal guardian must show two forms of acceptable identification as listed above.
The person applying for a library card must state the street address of their residence on the application.  If mail is received at a post office box, both the post office address and the street address of their residency must be given.  The residency address given on the application must match the address given on their acceptable identification.
Library material may be checked out at the time of registration.
