February is Black History
Month!
Black History Month was first represented by a single week when noted historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson originated the event in 1926. He chose a week in February, the month that marked the
birthdays of the “Great Emancipator” Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist Frederick Douglass as well as the historical dates when the first African American joined the U.S. Senate and the NAACP was founded.
